The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, has called for peace as the annual Egungun festival kicks off in the ancient town today (Monday).

The egungun festival failed to hold last year as a result of the global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Oba Adetunji, in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan on Monday by his Personal Assistant/Director of Media and Publicity, Mr.Adeola Oloko, warned that the festival should be rancour free.

Recall that the egungun festival turned bloody in 2019 as some elements, brandishing dangerous weapons, seized the occasion to unleash terror on residents.

The statement urged the masqueraders and their supporters to go by the rule as breakdown of law and order would not be condoned.

It read that the people should seize the occasion of the festival to pray for peace and tranquility in the society.

The statement stressed that whoever is caught for fomenting trouble would be made to face the wrath of law.
