Onanuga mocks PDP, says Ayu’s removal medicine after death

Director, Media and Publicity, Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Council, Bayo Onanuga, has described the removal of Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party as medicine after death.

Ayu was on Tuesday replaced by the National Working Committee of the PDP at an emergency meeting. This followed his suspension by the party in his ward in Benue State on Sunday which was quickly followed by an order of a Benue State High Court, dated Monday, March 27, 2023, restraining him from parading himself as chairman until April 17 when the matter will be heard.

Reacting to the development through his verified twitter account @aonanuga1956, the media entrepreneur said the action of the NWC came a little too late as Ayu’s refusal to step aside had cost the party the recent presidential election.

“Like medicine after death, PDP removes Iyorchia Ayu as chairman after its recalcitrance had cost it winning the presidential election. What a party!” Onanuga wrote.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary of the party, said, “After a careful consideration of the Court Order and in line with Section 45 (2) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017), the NWC resolved that the Deputy National Chairman (North) His Excellency, Amb. Umar Ililya Damagum assumes the National Chairmanship of our Party in acting capacity with effect from Tuesday, March 28, 2023.”

“The NWC charges all leaders, critical stakeholders, teeming members and supporters of our great party to remain calm and united at this critical time,” he said.
