One dead, two injured in Ogun multiple crashes

  • LASTMA rescues asthma patient, driver in Lagos car accident

A multiple crash that occurred at about 7:20 am on Wednesday around Iju Bridge, Ota-Idiroko road, Ogun State, reportedly claimed one soul while two persons were injured.

Two of the vehicles were also said to have plunged into the Iju River.

The vehicles involved with registration numbers were an IVECO truck AAA 969 ZY, a Ford mini truck BDG 340 XZ, and another Man Diesel truck with no registration number.

According to a statement from the spokesperson of the Ogun State sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mrs. Florence Okpe, the injured were taken to Otta General Hospital for medical care while the corpse had been deposited at Ifo General Hospital morgue.

She said a mechanical fault from one of the vehicles led to the accident.

Okpe said, “FRSC operatives carried out a rescue operation on the Otta – Idiroko route around Iju Bridge. The crash which occurred at about 0720 hrs this morning, involved 03 vehicles with registration numbers AAA 969 ZY Iveco truck BDG 340 XZ Ford mini truck, and the third vehicle with no registration number on it a Man Diesel truck.

“A total of eight persons involved were all male adults. Two persons were injured and one person was killed from the multiple crashes while the remaining five were unhurt.

“The injured victims were taken to Otta General Hospital for medical attention and the corpse was deposited at Ifo General Hospital morgue. The suspected cause of the multiple crashes was a mechanical deficiency in one of the vehicles.

The FRSC, however, advised motorists to always pay attention to their vehicles to detect any faults and fix them on time to avoid accidents.

In another development, operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, on Wednesday, said they rescued an Asthmatic patient and a driver in a car accident at Ajala inward Abule Egba, Lagos State.

This was contained in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Adebayo Taofiq.

According to the statement, an official of LASTMA, Ogunjobi, who led the rescue team, confirmed that while driving in a one-way direction, the driver of the commercial Mitsubishi bus collided with a Toyota Sienna bus which led to the accident.

He confirmed further that preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the Toyota Sienna bus had a head collision with the white commercial Mitsubishi bus while driving against the direction prohibited by Law (One-way).

He noted that the female asthmatic patient was rushed to a hospital for urgent medical care while the drivers of the two collided cars were handed over to the police.

“Immediately we arrived at the accident scene the driver of the commercial Mitsubishi white bus who had bruises over his body and another female asthmatic patient was rescued by LASTMA officials.

“LASTMA Ogunjobi disclosed that while the rescued female asthmatic patient was immediately rushed to BISAM hospital for urgent medical attention, drivers of both vehicles were handed over to policemen from Meiran police station for further investigation.” the statement read.

However, the General Manager of LASTMA, Bolaji Oreagba, has warned drivers to avoid using one way while driving.

“Driving against direction prohibited by Law (One-way) is against the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018,” he said.
