Osimhen hits target, provides assist in Napoli victory

Nigeria international Victor Osimhen scored with an amazing header and then provided a beautiful assist in Napoli’s 2-1 Serie A home victory against Cagliari at the weekend.

Fresh from being crowned the men’s 2023 African Footballer of the Year ahead of Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, the Super Eagles star performer scored the opener in the 69th minute and then set up Khvicha Kvaratskhelia an assist of the season contender to make it 2-0 in the 75th minute.

However, Osimhen did not play for the entire game as he was substituted in the 82nd minute. Before the game kicked off, Osimhen presented his African Player of the Year trophy to Naples supporters inside the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

The 24-year-old is currently ranked joint third in the Serie A goalscoring charts with a total of seven goals this season, as well as being the team’s top league scorer and providing two assists. He opened his account for the Serie A season against Frosinone on August 19, scoring twice during a 3-1 victory.

Last season, Osimhen made 32 Serie A appearances for Napoli, scored 26 goals, and provided four assists. Before linking up with Napoli in September 2020, Osimhen made 27 league appearances in total at Lille, scoring 13 goals and providing four assists.
