Osun 2018: We’ll not field unsuitable candidate – PDP chieftain

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Chief Segun Odekunmi, has said that the party has learnt its lessons from the 2014 governorship election and will strive to avoid fielding an unsuitable candidate in next year’s poll in the state.

Speaking exclusively with our correspondent, Odekunmi said, “We will win the 2018 governorship election, because we know why we didn’t win in 2014 .We will avoid this by presenting a suitable candidate. I am not mentioning anybody’s name, but all I know is that anybody being accused of anything, either positive or negative, we will be careful not to select that person.”

He appealed to the party leaders in the state to zone the governorship candidate to the Osun West Senatorial District, saying the zone had only produced the governor once since the creation of the state.

“We are appealing to the authorities in the party to give us that chance in the West District because since Osun State was created, we have only produced one governor in the west.
