Osun court remands sexagenarian for allegedly stealing cows worth N5m

A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, on Monday, ordered the remand of a 67-year-old man, Ibrahim Muhammed Alabi, for allegedly stealing 7 cows.

The state police command had arraigned Alabi and accused him of fraudulently obtaining the cows in pretence of rearing them.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Bose Shoyemi told the court that the accused person fraudulently obtained 7 cows valued 5,000,000,00, property of one Kazeem Ademola.

She further explained that he conspired with others who are now at large to commit an offence to wit stealing.

The charge read: “That you Ibrahim Muhammed Alabi, sometimes in 2018 at about 10:00am at Olude Ayekale Area, Osogbo, did steal seven life cows valued 5,000,000,00, property of one Kazeem Ademola,” the charge partly read.

Shoyemi said the sexagenarian committed offences contrary to and punishable under sections 419, 516, 383 (I) and 390 (9) of the criminal code cap 34 law of Osun State, 2002.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the three count-charge slammed against him.

Chief Magistrate Olusola Aluko asked the defence counsel, Najite Okobe, to approach the court with a formal application for bail and remanded the accused to Ilesa Correctional Centre.

The case was adjourned till November 21 for hearing.
