Osun government, foundation flag-off free medical surgery for residents

Osun State Government, in collaboration with Amen Health Care and Empowerment Foundation, has flagged-off free surgery for the residents of Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency in the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary HealthCare, Michael Oyerinde, represented the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke at the event’s flag-off ceremony which took place at the State Specialist Hospital, Ikire.

At the programme tagged, “Ending Neglected Tropical Diseases,” Oyerinde, who commended the free surgery programme organized by Amen Foundation, said one of the five cardinal objectives of Governor Ademola Adeleke is to ensure quality health care delivery for people at the grassroot.

He maintained that government cannot do it alone, hence, the state government’s readiness to partner with other implementing partners like AMEN in order to provide quality health care delivery for residents of the state.

Oyerinde led the team to the palace of Akire of Ikireland, Oba Akintunde Falabi on a courtesy visit to the monarch, who described the programme a unique one which would go along way in assisting those suffering from hydrocele but do not have the financial capacity to undergo surgery.

Oba Falabi appreciated the good gesture from the state government and the foundation for supporting humanity with the gesture, assuring that Osun State would soon be free from tropical diseases.

In his remarks, the State Coordinator, Amen Healthcare and Empowerment Foundation, Emmanuel Mariere, said that the hydrocele surgery is part of morbidity management and disability prevention programmes of the neglected tropical diseases unit of the Osun State Ministry of Health.

He stressed further that cases gathered from the just concluded Eye-care outreaches in five Local Government Areas of the State showed that many people are suffering from neglected tropical diseases in the society.
