Osun: Police arrest hunter for allegedly killing 78-year-old Imam

Police in Osun State have arrested a hunter who was said to have killed a 78-year-old man named Adegun Yusuf.

The hunter reportedly mistake the deceased, the Imam of Alaguntan village in Orile-Owu, Ayedaade Local Government Area of the state, for an antelope.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Osun State Command, SP Yemisi Opalola, during the parade of crime suspects on Tuesday, said, “On April 17, at about 11:30am, a complainant from Ogbere Oloba area of Ibadan reported at a police station that his father, one Adegun Yusuf, 78, the Imam of Alaguntan village in Orile-Owu, was shot dead by a hunter in the village.

“The suspect was later arrested and he confessed to the alleged crime.

“He (the suspect) explained that he was on a hunting expedition when he saw an antelope in the bush, which he shot at with his dane gun, but that he was surprised when he went to pick the antelope and met Baba Imam on the ground.”

Opalola said that the suspect would be charged to court after the completion of investigation.
