Osun resident jailed for assaulting two IBEDC workers who attempted disconnecting electricity

An Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, has sentenced a 22-year-old man, Durotoye Olamilekan to two years imprisonment for assaulting two staff members of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

The convict was said to have committed the offence on July, 22, 2019 at Oredunni Community, opposite Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC), when the electricity workers attempted disconnecting his house.

Police Prosecutor, Rasaki Olayiwola had during hearing, narrated how Olamilekan conducted in a manner likely to cause breach of peace and beat the two staff; Messrs Yusuf and Razaq Lateef blue black while engaging in their lawful duty.

Olayiwola informed the court that the convict, said to be a client of IBEDC, disrupted the electricity company’s workers while they were going to disconnect electricity in the area and also beat Yusuf, tore his cloth and pursued him and his colleague with a cutlass.

The offence is contrary to and punishable under sections 35, 451, 249 and 86 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 vol. II, Laws Of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

Olamilekan had entered into a not guilty plea and had been standing trial since his arraignment.

Magistrate A.O. Oloyade convicted Olamilekan based on the facts of the case presented before the court and sentenced him to six months imprisonment for each of the four counts slammed against him.

Oloyade said the terms of imprisonment will run concurrently.

However, the convict was given N70,000 fine option total.
