Osun varsity undergraduates in court over unlawful society, assault

Two students of the Osun State University have been arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting one Bode Olowookere on the university campus.

The accused persons, Ogunosun Timileyin and Owonifaari Samson, were also accused of belonging to an unlawful society.

Police prosecutor, Mr. Muyiwa Ogunleye, told the court that the students committed the offence on February 6, 2018 at the Osun State University, Osogbo.

According to the charge sheet, the alleged offences contravened the provisions of Sections 355 and 64 (a)(b) of the Criminal Code Cap 34,Vol II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria.

But the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of assault and membership of unlawful society preferred against them by the police.

The defence counsels, Messrs Adekunle Faleti and D. D. Awoyemi, urged the court to grant their clients bail in the most liberal terms.

Magistrate Risikat Olayemi granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N20,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

The Magistrate adjourned the case till January 16, 2020 for hearing.
