Ahead of the forthcoming 2026 gubernatorial poll in Osun, the People’s Democratic Party in Osun West Senatorial District, on Wednesday endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term in office.

They attributed their resolve to back Adeleke for a second term to his laudable performance in providing responsive leadership at the governance level and delivering democratic dividends to the citizens of the state.

Rising from the zonal meeting of the party hosted by the lawmaker representing Osun Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Lere Oyewumi, the party expressed optimism that with the support of the masses, who have benefited from the socioeconomic impacts of the governor’s infrastructural projects, PDP’s victory in 2026 poll is guaranteed.

The motion for the endorsement of Adeleke for second term was moved by the chairman of the party in Iwo Local Government, Alidu Adeoye, who was seconded by former legal adviser of the PDP in Osun State, Ebenezer Bolarinwa.

Others, who co-seconded the motion, include former Secretary to the State Government, Fatai Akinbade, representing the elders, Mudashiru Lukman, Mrs. Atinuke Oyawoye.

While explaining the reasons for the endorsement, Adeoye said, “Having reviewed the many landmark achievements of Mr Governor which cut across all the sectors within a space of two years, we concluded that the governor’s second term ticket should be automatic.”

Accepting the nomination and the endorsement on behalf of Adeleke, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Kazeem Akinleye thanked the party elders and the executives for the confidence reposed in the Governor to stand as the party’s candidate for the 2026 poll.

He, however, pledged the sustained support of the governor for good governance and his five point agenda, all within the framework of the PDP manifestos, just as he assured party members of more “masses-oriented policies and projects if Adeleke is re-elected in 2026.

“Mr Governor is elated by this endorsement and he humbly accepts it as a further call for him to serve the good people of Osun State. He will build on his present successes to provide good leadership for the state till 2030,” Akinleye remarked.

Party’s spokesman resigns

In a related development, the Publicity Secretary of the opposition PDP in Ondo State, Kenedy Peretei, has resigned from the party following the alleged lack of will of the leaders of the party to win elections.

While emphasising that PDP in the state is on its way to the mortuary after leaving the intensive care unit, Peretei slammed the leaders of the party over their insincerity towards the party.

Peretei, in his resignation letter, maintained that working for the success of the party had become difficult due to what he described as selfishness on the part of some members and leaders of the party.

The resignation, which was addressed to the Chairmen of the PDP, Arogbo Ward 1, read: “I wish to inform you about my decision to quit the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as those who claim to be at the leadership of the party have no intention to win any elections, now or in the future.

“It is difficult to work with people whose interests are only themselves and how they can use the party to trade every election year.

“I was privileged to serve as the State Financial Secretary of the PDP in its infancy (1999-2003) and served again as State Publicity Secretary, 2020 to date. I contribute my quota at every level.

“But the same people who have held the party hostage, making it impossible to win elections in the last three election cycles, have tightened their grip on a party that lays prostrate at the Intensive Care Unit. The PDP in Ondo State is now on its way to the mortuary.

“For those who depend on election funds and party patronage to run their families, I admonish them to seek second addresses so that they can live more meaningful lives than that of political bandits, Almajiris or just “Yes” men.”
