Our enemies, mischief makers after us – Benue Civil Defence boss

…says recruitment racketeers risk jail

The Benue State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, has said there is no racketeering in the recruitment of personnel into the corps in the state.
The NSCDC state Commandant, Mr. Shuayb Jibril Mohammed, said claims of a “cash and carry” recruitment into the NSCDC in the state was a figment of the imagination of the purveyors of such falsehood.
Mohammed, who spoke to our correspondent in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, blamed mischief-makers and enemies of the corps in the state for such an “unfounded rumour.”
He said although the command had apprehended and legally prosecuted a syndicate that was obtaining money from the unsuspecting members of the public with a promise to help them to be recruited into the corps, some persons
opposed to the security activities of the NSCDC in the state were still bent on tarnishing its image by all means.

Enemies of the corps have yet to desist from their nefarious acts

“We have arrested and prosecuted those who were collecting money from people and promising them non-existent jobs in the Civil Defence. So, for anyone to continue to make such allegations against the corps in Benue State, it means the enemies of the corps have yet to desist from their nefarious acts. Otherwise, I don’t think there is any iota truth in such claims against the Civil Defence in this state. It’s all lies,” Mohammed
said.
He further explained that the process leading to recruitment into the corps had already been established and no one could subvert the standards.
The NSCDC commandant added that whenever the appropriate authorities deemed it fit to carry out any recruitment into the corps, it would make the information public through the appropriate medium.
He maintained that once an applicant met the criteria for recruitment into the corps, he’s automatically offered the job, noting that those making false claims about the NSCDC in the state were not properly educated concerning the guidelines of the security organisation.
“When I joined the Civil Defence, no one asked me to pay even a dime and I went through series of vigorous tests and screening and I came out successful. Those making unguarded utterances are not being sincere and I urge them to desist henceforth in the general interest of all and sundry,” Mohammed
said.
He, however, warned the perpetrators of employment racketeering and other syndicates to desist from their illegal trade or risk prosecution and jail term.
