Our family regrets late Senator Adeleke’s defection to APC – Brother

The Younger brother of the first civilian governor of Osun State, Otunba Ademola Adeleke, has said that the family now regrets the defection of the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2014.

The younger Adeleke, who is the standard bearer of the PDP in the Osun West Senatorial bye-election scheduled for July 8, described the APC on whose platform his late brother represented the people of the senatorial district in the National Assembly until his sudden death a couple of months ago, as a party that stood for ‘darkness’ in the state.

He, however, assured that he would soon overshadow the ‘darkness,’ especially since his middle name, Nurudeen, means ‘light.’

Though he did not directly accuse the APC of being responsible for the ex-governor’s death, he said, “It’s worrisome that Senator Isiaka Adeleke, who did not die after being assaulted in the PDP, lost his life in the APC that he defected to.”

While defecting to the APC in May, 2014, the late Senator Adeleke had alleged that he was assaulted by a former Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan, and the then candidate of the PDP for the 2014 governorship election in the state, Senator Iyiola Omisore, adding that he was no longer safe in the PDP.

But in an exclusive interview with our correspondent, the younger Adeleke described the APC as a political party full of deceits, propaganda and lies, stressing that he left the party because of these anomalies and the attempts by the APC leaders in the state to pervert justice and fairness during the primaries to select a candidate that would contest in the forthcoming bye-election to replace his late elder brother in the Senate.

The PDP candidate said that apart from his family’s contributions to the well-being of the society, he had been assisting the people of Osun West and hoped to continue the legacy of his late brother.

Adeleke further said that contrary to claims in certain quarters in the state, the APC candidate for the bye election, Mudahsiru Hussein, did not concede the senatorial ticket in 2014 to his late brother.

“My brother (late Senator Adeleke) got the ticket through primary election,” he maintained.
