Osun State governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, on Wednesday, signed the year 2022 Appropriation Bill into law.
The governor, on the occasion held at the Government Secretariat, Abere, Osogbo, reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare of the people, employment creation, youth empowerment and infrastructural development.
According to him, the 2021 budget, as at the third quarter of the year, recorded 83.66 per cent performance.
Oyetola stated that the 2022 Appropriation Bill would help in consolidating on the gains of the outgoing year for sustainable development, stressing that by the end of the year, the budget performance would be 95 per cent.
He pointed out that quality programmes and projects were delivered across the state in 2021, explaining that this was achievable through prudent deployment of resources, by cutting cost and plugging wastes.
He said that his administration would continue to follow time-tested principles for optimum results in 2022, stressing, “With 56 per cent capital allocation and 44 per cent recurrent allocation in the next year’s budget, we are obviously on the path of increased service delivery in 2022.”
He expressed satisfaction on the synergy among the three arms of government, saying, “In the last three years of working together, we have demonstrated unity of purpose and capacity in a manner that delivered service to the people in line with our promise.”
Commending the state lawmakers for the quickly passage of the Appropriation Bill into law, he said, “The cooperation and support by the Assembly, once again, showcased the Assembly as a people-oriented and development-focused House. I thank you all for your service to the state.
“The modest achievements we recorded in 2021, and in the previous years, were as a result of the support by our people. I thank the people of Osun for their cooperation.”
The Speaker, Timothy Owoeye, expressed satisfaction on the timely presentation of the 2022 Appropriation Bill, saying, “This budget is reliable and realistic. It is a budget of Sustainable Development. We promise to continue to support you (the executive) as we have realised that if we continue to carry out our oversight functions properly, it will help to move the state forward towards actualising her dream).”
