Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has appealed to Muslims and traditional worshipers in the state to give peace a chance and allow the ongoing judicial process on the recent clash in Osogbo run its full course.

Oyetola had, in the wake of the clash between some egungun worshippers and Muslims in Osogbo, condemned the development and directed the police to investigate the matter.

Following police investigation, leaders of the two religious groups were arraigned at an Osogbo Magistrate’s court over allegations of assault and murder.

Some traditional worshippers in the state had kicked against the arrest and arraignment of the custodian of egungun in Osogbo, Chief Kayode Esuleke.

In a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, on Friday, the governor, who noted that Osun State and its people were known for peace, urged the residents to avoid acts that could tarnish the image of the state.

It stated that religious intolerance was injurious to the unity and peace of the state, stressing the need for the people to respect its unique diversity.

“I appeal to both parties to sheathe their swords and toe the line of peace and the law.

“Since the matter is already in court, both parties should remain calm and allow the process to run its full course. We are known for peace as a people. We should do all in our powers to sustain that recognition in our collective interest,” the statement read.
