Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has called on residents who have attained voting age to use opportunity of the continuous voters’ registration starting on Monday, to register to be eligible to vote in all future elections, especially the next governorship election in the state.

Governor Oyetola spoke through his Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, during an edition of Governor’s Family Meeting held at Awo, the headquarters of Egbedore Local Government area of the state.

A statement by Oyintiloye on Sunday said the residents of voting age who had not registered during the previous voter-registration exercises should register to enable them perform their civic duty when the time to elect leaders of their choice comes.

The governor, urged the residents to believe in Nigeria and always work for her progress emphasised that power to give mandate to leaders through election still resided with the electorate.

He said, “I call on all residents that are just attaining voting age or those that had not registered previously, even though they are of voting age to use opportunity of the continuous voters’ registration starting on Monday to register. That is the only means they can get voters card with which they will determine who governs them as required in our representative democracy.

“Power to freely give mandate to leaders as well as entrust them with political power or position through election, still resides with the electorates. We believe the people will continue to support APC in all future elections, especially the next governorship election in Osun and other elections.

“The tempo of development in the areas of health, education, infrastructure, security and human capacity building among other sectors which we have seen in Osun under APC government must be sustained.”
