Pandemonium as suspected cultists kill one, injure others in Lagos, Borno

Some gangs of criminals suspected to be cult members have unleashed terror on some residents of Lagos and Borno States.

Residents of the affected areas in both states expressed concern over increasing cult-related crisis which they said have been causing tension.

In the Igando area of Lagos, two rival cult groups went on rampage and exchanged gunfire.

After the clash, the Nigeria Police Force, Igando Division, arrested one Hammed Olawale, aged 20 and Japhet Oderinde, 23 for shooting a 26-year-old Abeeb Fagbohun.

Exhibitions recovered from the suspects were locally fabricated semiautomatic pistol with four live rounds of 9mm ammunition.

The victim, who was shot and believed to be a member of a rival group, has been promptly taken to hospital.

Police said efforts were in top gear to arrest fleeing suspects.

In a grim discovery on Sunday, the body of a young man in his early 20s was found on a refuse dump in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State.

The victim’s hands were tied behind his back, and signs of brutalization, indicative of a suspected cult clash, were evident.

The incident unfolded in the vicinity of Iorpuu Adai Street, Nyiman Layout, HUDCO quarters, in Makurdi.

The victim, identified as a person of dark complexion, had one ear missing, suggesting the brutality of the assault he experienced.

His assailants had callously placed his lifeless body in a sack before dumping it on the refuse dump.

The shocking discovery was made by worshippers on their way to morning service on Sunday. The gruesome scene points to the ongoing concerns surrounding cult-related violence in the region.
