THERE was pandemonium on Tuesday morning, in Okaka, a suburb of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, when a woman, identified as Arugu Chidinma Benedicta,
stabbed a 14-year-old JSS1 student to death.

The deceased teenager, student of Government Science and Technical College, Okaka, was said to have been preparing for school when the incident occurred.

The suspect reportedly stabbed the deceased, identified as Joseph Thomas, and fondly called “Daddy’s boy” in the chest with a knife.

Though circumstances surrounding this dastardly act has not been ascertained, the suspect, it was learnt, had been having a lingering feud with Joseph’s grandmother.

She was said to have stormed the residence of the deceased, shouting, when he came out to know what was happening.

He reportedly ran into the suspect, who stabbed him several times on the chest.

The victim did not survive the attack as he died after being rushed to the Federal Medical Centre.

The suspect would have been lynched by angry residents who reportedly descended on her but for the intervention of the Police, who arrived at the scene and took her away.

Spokesperson for the state police command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident, saying, “The suspect, one Arugu Chidinma Benedicta, stabbed one Joseph Thomas 14 years with a knife. The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre where he eventually died.”

“The suspect was mobbed before the arrival of Police. She was however rescued by the Police and she is receiving treatment at FMC,” the PPRO added.
