BY MAYOWA SAMUEL

The National Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party is currently locked in a closed-door meeting with the party’s governorship candidates across the 36 States of the federation.

The closed-door meeting is tagged an interactive session between the party national leadership and the party candidates ahead of the 2023 elections.

Notably absent at the meeting however is the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, who is on vacation abroad.

Similarly, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State who was absent when the meeting began was said to have sent in his apologies, noting that he would join as the session continues.

The meeting comes amid calls for the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to step aside by Nyesom Wike’s camp, as part of conditions for resolution of the impasse over the choice of Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as the party’s presidential running mate.

The meeting is also coming hours after Wike and the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu met in London, United Kingdom to discuss issues regarding the 2023 presidential election.

Reports say Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi were in attendance from the Tinubu camp at the UK meeting while Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State attended the meeting from the Wike camp.
