PDP suspends Kogi chairman over alleged N19m fraud

The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in the Dekina Local Government Area in Kogi State, Ibrahim Huseini, has been suspended indefinitely.

Huseini, before his indefinite suspension, was accused of misappropriating N19 million from the party’s account and issuing threats to members.

He was also accused of engaging in anti-party activities during the last governorship election held in November 2023.

His suspension was contained in a letter dated January 21, 2024, in which officials of the PDP in the Dekina LGA passed a vote of no confidence in him.

The PDP Local Government Working Committee in Dekina accused the embattled Chairman, of disrespecting established party protocols and institutions.

“We, the Local Government and Ward Executives of Dekina Local Government Area, Kogi State, suspend you as party divisional chairman on January 15, 2024, following a vote of no confidence by the majority executives at both Local and ward levels.

“This decision stems from your mismanagement of party funds, open threats to executive members, and involvement in anti-party activities, particularly evident during the last presidential and state governorship elections in the state.

“You are hereby instructed to submit all party materials in your possession to the divisional secretary of the party. Your actions have hindered the progress of the party by not adhering to the provisions of the party constitution.”

The signatures of those who passed a vote of no confidence in Huseini were affixed to the document.

When contacted, Huseini said, “Those signatures you are seeing are not real; my exco is intact. In fact, they are meeting on Wednesday to pass a vote of confidence in my leadership.”

Asked about the N19 million he was said to have misappropriated, he said there was nothing like that under his watch.

He said that a group of people just sat down to concoct what did not happen thinking that it could fly.
