Peseiro monitoring Chaves new boy Nwakali

Super Eagles’ Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro has told the media that he is keeping tabs on Grupo Desportivo de Chaves new signing Kelechi Nwakali.

Peserio admitted in an interview that Nwakali has been recommended to him and the midfielder is among the players being monitored with a view to an invitation to the national team.

Nigeria Football Federation’s Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen is a huge admirer of the 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Ball winner and included him on the roster for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. Since the conclusion of the tournament in Cameroon, Nwakali has been in the international wilderness because of a managerial change, with Peseiro replacing Eguavoen after the latter failed to guide Nigeria to the World Cup finals in Qatar.

One of the reasons Nwakali opted to join Chaves ahead of his suitors in Denmark and Czech Republic was to put himself on the radar of the coaching staff as he’s now playing for a club in the top seven European leagues.

The 25-year-old made his competitive debut for Chaves, two days after his signing was confirmed by the Portuguese Primeira Liga outfit.

Chave lost on penalties to Aves Futebol SAD in the first round of the Taça da Liga at the weekend, with Nwakali entering the game as a substitute in the 62nd minute as a replacement for João Pedro.

The former Golden Eaglets, Flying Eagles and Nigeria U23 captain has three caps for the Super Eagles.
