The presidential candidate of the Labour Party for 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has endorsed Olumide Akpata as the party’s flag bearer in the Edo State governorship election.

He gave his approval on Twitter now X.

This comes on the heels of the division among his supporters popularly called OBidient Movement on who to support between the People’s Democratic Party candidate, Asue Ighodalo and LP candidate, Olumide Akpata.

Addressing Nigerians on X Space hosted by Parallel Facts on Friday, Peter Obi described Akpata as “a very credible candidate” urging his supporters to give the former NBA President their maximum support.

The former Anambra Governor also promised to campaign for the LP flag bearer as soon as the Independent National Electoral Commission declares the electioneering campaign open.

“I’m still in the Labour Party and I have to support our candidate in Edo (Akpata),” he responded when asked to clarify his position on Edo politics.

Recently, Akpata held a closed-door meeting with the Labour Party national leader.

Ondo APC cautions governorship aspirants against unguarded utterances

In a related development, the All Progressives Congress in Ondo says its governorship aspirants should avoid making unguarded utterances as they prepare for the party’s primary election.

The Ondo APC governorship primary election has been scheduled for April 20.

In an Easter message on Monday, the APC’s spokesperson in the state, Alex Kalejaye, said the party is focused on creating a conducive atmosphere for the primary election.

Kalejaye said the APC in Ondo is getting stronger, noting that the party is the most viable in the state.

“We rejoice with our members, and indeed, all Christians, over the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which symbolizes victory,” he said.

“It is the essence of Easter celebration.

“It is our wish that the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ will activate a deeper sense of patriotism, unity within our fold, and uncommon love for our dear state in the interest of all.”

Kalejaye expressed optimism that the country’s economy would soon get better.
