Photos: Police, UNILAG’s security batter rusticated student activist during convocation

Olorunfemi Adeyeye , a 400 level student of the University of Lagos, today got more than he bargained for, as he was reportedly beaten to pulp during today’s convocation ceremony of graduating students of the institution.
An eyewitness, Omoyele Sowore, the Publisher of Sahara Reporters, accounted that Olorunfemi was “tackled and roughly handled” as he advanced to protest his rustication during the convocation of his colleagues. Sowore said in a post on his Facebook page, “Folks: I was at the convocation of the University of Lagos today to witness the graduation ceremony of one our top citizen journalists.

“Towards the end of the gathering, a University of Lagos student activist, Adeyeye tried to protest his rustication by the University. He was immediately tackled and roughly handled, I protested the treatment meted to the young activist but was also tackled by a combined team of security agents.”
“Our cameraman, who tried to record the scene was viciously attacked by a police officer who dragged him and Adeyeye on the floor all the way to the UNILAG Security Post.”
“Shortly after we arrived to get him released, we were told that the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni had ordered them to be brought before him. Thereafter, they were driven by a team of police vehicles to an unknown destination in their bloodied state.”
