Police arraign 50-year old okada rider for allegedly crushing pedestrian

The Police in Osun State have dragged a 50-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Adeyemi Emmanuel, to court for allegedly crushing and injuring a pedestrian.

Emmanuel, an unlicensed motorcyclist, was accused of knocking down one Oluwatobi Olaluwoye, a resident of Abanla, Owode Ede, Osun State with a bike at night thereby causing him injuries on his body.

The charge brought against him by Police prosecutor, Akintunde Jacob, read that on August 1, 2022, at about 7:30pm at Elejatutu area, Owode Ede community in the state, “You, Adeyemi Emmanuel, being the rider in charge of a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number: LA 26, ridding the motorcycle on the public highway without driver’s licence, committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 7 of RTL Volume 6, Cap 115 Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

“You, being the rider in charge of the aforementioned motorcycle, rode same on the public highway which caused injury to one Olaluwoye Oluwatobi of Abanla area, Owode Ede, Osun State and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 27 of RTA, Cap 548 Laws of Nigeria.

“You, Adeyemi Emmanuel, being in charge of the motorcycle, rode same on the public highway without vehicle licence and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 21 (b) of RTA, Cap 548 Laws of Nigeria.

“You rode same without insurance certificate of the said vehicle on public highway and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 139 of RTA, Laws of Nigeria 2015.

“You rode same on the public highway without Road Worthiness and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 142 of RTA Laws of Nigeria 2015.”

Emmanuel pleaded not guilty to the accusations.

Magistrate M. A. Olatunji granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety in the same amount.

The matter was adjourned till January 26 for mention.
