Police arraign hubby for failing to provide for wife 

The police in Osun State have arraigned a 37-year-old man, Isiaq Abudulazeez, before an Osogbo Magistrate’s court for allegedly failing to provide basic needs for his wife, Barakat.

The prosecutor, Mr. Adegoke Taiwo, told the court that the accused person beat his wife on October 16, 2019 at the Oke-Baale Area, Osogbo, when she demanded that Isiaq perform his duty as her husband.

According to the charge sheet, the alleged offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 351 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

The charge sheet reads: “That you, Isiaq Abdulazeez, failed to provide necessary things to Isiaq Barakat with her three months baby and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 300 of the criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.”

The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty to the two count- charge of maltreatment levelled against him by the police.

Counsel to the accused person, Funsho Muritala, urged the court to grant his client bail.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Adijat Oloyede, granted the accused person bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety that must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The matter was adjourned for mention.
