Police arraign man, 30, for swindling woman N.7m

The police in Lagos State have arraigned a 30 – year- old man before a Magistrate’s court for swindling a woman of the sum of N750, 000.00.

The accused person, Monday Onuoha, was brought to the court by the Investigative Police Officer, Inspector Usman Afegbai.

Onuoha was alleged to have obtained the money in cash under the false pretence of fixing Aluminum windows for his victim, Winifred Oriabure, but failed to do so.

In the charge numbered 2/18/…2019, the Prosecutor, Sgt Friday Inedu, told the court that Onuoha “did fraudulently obtain the sum of N750,000.00 ( Seven hundred and fifty thousand Naira) from one Winifred Oriabure  ‘f’ under the pretence that you will fix Aluminum windows for her, a representation you know to be false and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 314 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

In the second charge, the police said that the accused person “did steal the sum of (N750,000.00) Seven hundred and fifty thousand Naira, property of one winifred Oriabure ‘f’ and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The accused person, Onuoha, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

But the presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Babalola, granted the accused person bail in the sum of N100, 000.00  with two sureties who are gainfully employed.

The Magistrate also ruled that the accused person’s official and residential addresses be verified.
