Police arraign man for killing three persons in Osun community

A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State has ordered that a 42-year-old man, Taiwo Olaniyi be remanded in prison for allegedly killing three persons.

The police arraigned the suspected serial killer on Tuesday on four count-charge of murder and conspiracy.

Police prosecutor, John Idoko informed the court that the defendant conspired with others at large to murder two women and a man including Rasidat Mufutau, Anifowose Basirat and Abdulrahaman Afolabi on June 28, 2022 at about 5:40am at Ofatedo, Ido-Osun, Osun State.

The charge sheet read, “That you Taiwo Olaniyi and others now at large on 28th day of June, at about 5:40am at Ofatedo, Ido-Osun, Osun State, did conspire among yourselves to commit a felony to wit murder.”

The defendant, alongside others at large, at the same time, place and date, in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one Rasidat Mufutau, one Anifowose Basirat, and one Abdulrahaman Afolabi.

The Assistant Superintendent of Police said the defendant committed offences contrary to and punishable under Sections 324 and 319(1), of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Vol.Il Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

Magistrate O.A Daramola, did not take the plea of Olaniyi because of the capital nature of the allegations.

Daramola remanded the accused person at the Ilesa Correctional Centre and ordered the prosecutor to furnish the Department of Public Prosecution at the State Ministry of Justice with the duplicate case file for legal advice.

She also asked Idoko to submit document showing that the case file had been receiving by the DPP.

The case was adjourned till November 1 for mention.
