Police arraign man for stealing ‘ogogoro’, cigarettes, others

A 32-year-old man, Tunde Isiaka, has been brought before an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court by the Osun State Police Command for allegedly stealing and defrauding people.

Isiaka was accused of stealing three plastics of sapele water, otherwise known as ‘ogogoro’, some packs of cigarettes and some amount of money.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Akintunde Jacob, informed the court that the accused person stole a handset and also defrauded others.

The charge read, “That you Tunde Isiaka on 30th day of January, 2023 at about 13hours at Testing Ground Area, Osogbo in the Osogbo Magisterial District did steal iPhone 6 handset valued Forty-Five Thousand Naira (N45,000,00), property of one Azeez Taofeek and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 383(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

“That you Tunde Isiaka on the same date, time and date in the aforementioned Magisterial District did fraudulently obtain cash sum of Eight Hundred Naira (N800:00) only in the pretence of selling quality rice and vegetable oil to one Azeez Taofeek, knowing full well you did not have and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

“That you Tunde Isiaka, on 10th day of March, 2023 at about 1830hours at Omo-West Area, Osogbo, in the Osogbo Magisterial District did steal 3 plastic of sapele water valued Four Hundred and Fifty Naira (N450:00), six sticks of cigarettes valued One Hundred and Fifty Naira (N150:00) and cash sum of Four Thousand Five Hundred Naira (N4,500:00), property of one Akinyele Iyabo and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.”

Isiaka pleaded not guilty to the allegations. He had no legal representation.

Magistrate A. A. Adeyeba adjourned till April 18 for consideration of bail and ordered that the defendant be remanded in lawful custody.
