Police arraign three suspects for looting store

Three men have been brought before an Ogba Magistrate’s Court for allegedly looting a store, carting away goods worth millions of naira.

The suspects, Daniel Godwin, 21; Izuchukwu James, 17; and Daniel Ajah, 22, were arraigned on a three-count charge bearing on conspiracy, stealing and damage.

In his statement, the prosecuting officer, Mr. Raji Akeem, argued that the defendants broke into the store belonging to one Mrs. Bola Onojaife and stole goods worth millions of naira.

He also stated that Daniel Godwin stole goods worth N47, 000 from one Mrs. Latifat Munirudeen.

According to count one of the charge, “Daniel Godwin on January 29 at about 9:00 am at No. 135 along Ayobo-Ipaja Road, conspired with others and committed felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 411 and punishable under Section 406 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

On count two, “Daniel Godwin, Izuchukwu James and Daniel Ajah did conspire and stole 6 gallons of 25 litres of groundnut oil, valued at N72,000; and 10 bags of rice, valued at N145,000. Total value is N217,000, property of one Onojaife Bola ‘F’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280  and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

Count three of the charge read, “Daniel Godwin, on March 16, 2018, at about 6:00 am, at No. 135 along Ayobo-Ipaja Road, Lagos did steal one Avanti Table, valued at N8,000; Black Horse Table, valued at N14,000; and 10 pieces spendor table, valued at N25,000; total value of N47,000, property of Latifat Munirudeen ‘F’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

While Daniel Godwin pleaded guilty, Izuchukwu James and Daniel Ajah pleaded not guilty.

In her remark, the Magistrate, Ms. Jadesola Adeyemi-Ajayi, said the defendant should be remanded in custody and adjourned the
matter.
