Police arrest eight robbery suspects in Lagos

Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Zone 2 Police Command, Lagos, have arrested eight suspects in different parts of the state for armed robbery and killing of a night guard at Amuwo Odofin.
The suspects were also alleged to be involved in the burglary of warehouses at various locations in Lagos.
Four members of the gang specialising in armed robbery, truck hijacking and diversion in Lagos and some parts of Ogun State, were arrested by the operatives of the unit late August while they were planning to carry out a robbery operation at the Ikotun area.
During interrogation and investigation, another set of four other members of the gang were arrested, including two persons alleged to be the receivers of the goods stolen by the suspected robbers.
The suspects include Aniete Akonnah, Promise Friday, Happiness Promise, Obi Ebong, Silas Effiong, Monday Udoh, Ifedinachukwu Iwuola (Receiver) and Sumaila (Receiver).
The Zonal Police Public Relations Officer for the command, Muyiwa Adejobi, said that the suspects also carried out a robbery operation at Ajao Estate, opposite Eleganza Plaza, Lagos, last May, during which a night guard on duty was killed and carted away Alumunium sheets worth N22million.
Adejobi, a superintendent of police, said that the items recovered from the suspects included consumable goods such as Geisha, Tin Tomatoes, Maggi(seasoning) ,motorcycles and spare parts, sockets and chains.
He said, “It’s crystal clear that this syndicate had caused untold hardship to many innocent Nigerians as one of the victims (name withheld) of a robbery operation carried out by the suspects On 5th August, 2016, lamented to the police operatives how her warehouse at Alakoso, Amuwo-Odofin Industrial Estate, Lagos, was burgled and goods worth #28,000,000(Twenty Eight million Naira) were carted away.
“The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command Lagos, Abdulmajid Ali, has condemned the acts of this syndicate and directed that the suspects be thoroughly investigated and their weapons recovered without delay.”
The PPRO added that the suspects would be charged to court while investigation by the police would continue.
