Police arrest four suspects for robbing Crawford University VC

The police in Ogun have arrested five persons who robbed the Vice Chancellor of Crawford University, Igbesa, Ogun State, Prof. Rotimi Ajayi, in January.
Ajayi was robbed along Atan-Igbesa Road on January 27, 2017 of his Toyota Highlander Jeep, five phones, an iPAD and cash.
The incident was immediately reported and the operatives of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad went on the trail of the suspected armed robbers.
FSARS’ efforts paid off, when its operatives received vital information about their hide-out in Seme border and stormed the place.
The robbers engaged the team in a gun duel, which lasted for about an hour and at the end of the encounter, four members of the robbery syndicate, including Adewale Rasaq, 27; Keneth Ohimai, 38; Segun Idike,19 and Hassan Mussa, 25, were arrested.
The fifth suspect, Joseph Housus, who escaped with gunshot injuries, was later arrested at Ajase in Benin Republic, where he went for treatment.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said efforts were still being made to extradite the fifth suspect back to Nigeria.
Oyeyemi, an assistant superintendent of police, also said that four pump action guns, one locally made pistol and 30 live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
He said, “On interrogation, they (suspects) confessed being the syndicate that robbed the V.C. and that the Toyota Jeep had been sold off in the Republic of Benin. We are working in conjunction with the security agents in Benin Republic for possible recovery of the vehicle.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, commended the gallantry displayed by the FSARS men and advised them not to rest on their oars until the state was rid of crime and criminality.
Iliyasu equally appealed to the members of the public not to relent in their efforts in giving necessary information to the police in order to have a crime free society.
