Police arrest man while attempting to facilitate medical assistance for suspect with gunshot injury

A 21-year-old man, Olalekan Kazeem, has been arrested by men of the Osun State Police Command for allegedly making efforts to facilitate medical assistance for an armed robbery suspect, Dada Taiwo.

Taiwo, aged 26, was said to have sustained gunshot injuries during a gun duel between his gang and security agents trying to foil a robbery operation.

It was gathered that Taiwo and some other dead and fleeing gang members allegedly invaded the defunct Osogbo Steel Rolling Mill presently known as Integrated Steel PLC of Dangote Group in wee hours of the day recently to pillage electrical installations on the premises.

Three suspected armed robbers reportedly lost their lives during a gun duel with a combined security team comprising police operatives from the Osun State Police Command and members of Nigeria Forest Security Service otherwise known as hunters at the robbery scene in Osogbo.

Five members of the gang were also reportedly injured and taken to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo for treatment.

The gang of over 20 armed robbers were said to have laid siege on the company before entering the premises through the back, beating security men positioned at the main entrance and were already cutting cables and electrical installations when the hunters got wind of their presence in the compound.

After their operation was foiled, Taiwo was said to have escaped the scene with gunshot injuries.

The suspect struggled to his house at Arikalamu area in Osogbo where Kazeem was running about to get him a doctor or nurse that would treat his gunshot wound.

Kazeem was said to have secretly inquired from some residents where he would get a medical practitioner that would attend to Taiwo before a person who was privy to the information alerted the police.

Immediately, a team of police detectives stormed the area and arrested Taiwo and Kazeem.

He was paraded alongside other suspects recently at the police headquarters in Osogbo for alleged conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Kazeem was said to have confessed at the police station that he was only trying to assist Taiwo get medical attention by being his friend.

Taiwo explained that they were about to carry out their operation at the Steel Rolling company before the police foiled it and that some of his gang members escaped.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Osun, Hope Okafor said Taiwo had been taken to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital for treatment and that he would be arraigned alongside Kazeem after seeking medical care.
