Police arrest notorious burglar, 17 other suspects in Ogun

The police in Ogun have arrested a suspected burglar, Onyebuchi chika, alleged to be the mastermind of the many cases of burglary and stealing in Awa Ijebu and its environs.

The police said that the suspect, who was arrested in the early hours of Saturday, had been terrorizing residents of the area for some time now.
Luck however ran out on him, when a distress call was made to the Divisional Police Officer in Awa ijebu by the victim of the suspect.
The DPO led his anti-robbery team to the scene, combed the area thoroughly and subsequently arrested the suspect.
Items recovered from him included a sowing machine, two mattresses, cooking gas and some burglary tools.

On interrogation, he confessed that he had been a serial burglar and that the students of Olabisi Onanbanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, residing in the community had always been his target.
In a related development, policemen attached to Itele Ota Division, in their efforts to rid the area of crime and criminality, raided hideouts and black spots in the Ayetoro area of Itele, where 17 suspected criminals were arrested.
Items recovered from the suspects included bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, assorted charms, 8 motorcycles, one generator, 9 GSM phones and the sum of N123,000 .
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered the immediate transfer of the two cases to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
