Police arrest one as suspected cultists kill another rival member in Osun

A yet-to-be-identified resident of Osogbo, capital of Osun State, has been shot dead by some suspected rival cult members in the state.

It was gathered that the deceased youth, suspected to be a cultist, was chased by six persons on two motorcycles from Ibokun axis to Sasa area in Osogbo around 5:pm on Sunday before he was caught up with and killed.

According to eyewitness account, the deceased was having a short gun on him and that the weapon dropped off immediately he was gunned down by the suspected cultists.

“When they chased him to Sasa junction, people started running. But he could not escape as those who were chasing him brought out gun and shot him dead. A short gun dropped off his hand immediately he fell down and the six people who shot him picked it up and turned their motorcycles and headed towards Ibokun road,” an eyewitness who did not want his name mentioned told The Point.

Tension was said to have enveloped the area as traders and passersby scampered to safety. The market area at Sasa was totally deserted after the incident as the corpse of the victim was still on the ground.

When contacted on the telephone, the Public Relations Officer of Osun State Command, SP Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident and disclosed that a suspect had been arrested.

Opalola said a 21-year-old Olarewaju Tosin, of Eko-Ende road Ikirun was arrested on Sunday. She added that efforts were ongoing to arrest fleeing suspects. 

The police spokesperson disclosed that corpse of the young boy was taken to UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital morgue in Osogbo.

Recall that some suspected cultists had on Thursday, smashed the head of one Shogo with a stone in Osogbo.
