Police arrest suspects who bought murdered Fatinoyes’ Hyundai car for N150, 000

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspects who purchased a 2016 Hyundai Elantra car belonging to the murdered Abeokuta couple, Kehinde and Bukola Fatinoye.

The assailants, one of which was the driver to the deceased couple and the murder mastermind, Lekan Adekanbi, had slaughtered the couple in the early hours of January 1, 2023.

The killer squad which also included one Ahmed Odetola, Akamo; and Waheed Adeniji, Koffi, after slaughtering the couple, took away their only surviving child, Oreoluwa; and their adopted child, Felix Olorunyomi in the Hyundai car.

Both Oreoluwa and Felix, who met the gang during the ‘operation’ and identified the driver, were tied in the boot of the Hyundai car before they were later thrown into a river.

Luck came the way of Felix who escaped from the river, but Oreoluwa was unlucky, his remains were later discovered after the third day on the river.

The killers later parked the car at a street in Oke-Ata for three days before the same was moved and sold to the buyers at a ridiculous amount of N150, 000.

Luck ran out on the killer squad as they were arrested at different points in Ogun State, while the driver, Lekan, claimed he masterminded the murder because his late boss was unkind to him.

He claimed he was employed as a driver with N25, 000 salary but that household chores were included while the salary was not increased.

According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the arrest of the buyers, Azeez Usman and Owolaja Aanuoluwapo, followed the confession of the killer squad.

Oyeyemi said both Azeez and Owolaja were aware that the car was related to a crime before they agreed to buy the car for a paltry sum of N150, 000.

Oyeyemi said, “In its determination to bring all those directly or indirectly involved in the gruesome murder of Kehinde and Bukola Fatinoye and their only son Oreoluwa to justice, operatives of Ogun state Police Command apprehended the two suspects who bought the stolen car of the deceased.

“The two suspects, Azeez Usman and Owolaja Aanuoluwapo were arrested at different locations in the state following the confession of the earlier arrested suspects who informed the police that the car was sold to Azeez Usman at a rate of N150, 000.

“After killing the couple, the suspects got hold of their son OreOluwa and their adopted child, Felix Olorunyomi, tied them with rope and put them in the booth of the Hyundai car with which they drove them to Ogun River Bridge at Adigbe area, where they threw them into the river.

“The suspects later parked the car somewhere in Oke Ata area of Abeokuta, but later contacted Owolaja AanuOluwapo who went there and drove the vehicle to Azeez Usman’s workshop where the car was butchered into pieces and sold in parts.

“Police investigation revealed that the two suspects were duly informed that the car was stolen, but they went ahead and bought it at the rate of N150, 000.”

According to Oyeyemi, the State Commissioner of Police, Frank Mba has ordered that all the suspects be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded.
