Police arrest vigilante member over alleged rice, cash theft

The Police in Osun State have arrested a member of vigilante group, Oguntolu Tirimisiyu, over an armed robbery allegation.

Tirimisiyu, aged 55, a vigilante in Apomu/Ikire town, was said to have conspired with others now at large to rob one Edward Taiwo of his bags of rice and cash.

According to a police source, the suspect committed the offence on November 28, 2021 but escaped with the loot. The source disclosed that the police were on his trail and other accomplices until he was recently arrested.

Tirimisiyu and other fleeing vigilante members, allegedly stopped Taiwo who was in transit from Ibadan, Oyo State, with two vehicles loaded with bags of rice at Ikire town and robbed him of nine bags of rice and cash sum of N500,000.

The victim was also said to have been forced to transfer the sum of N20, 000 remaining in his account to an account provided by the suspect and members of his gang.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Osun State Command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the suspect’s arrest, adding that efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover the exhibits.
