The Ondo State Police Command has arrested Doracas Asije, the mother of a West African Senior School Certificate Examination candidate, along with four accomplices, for allegedly orchestrating an attack on a Vice Principal, Rotifa.
The incident had sparked widespread concern and outrage in the community.
According to reports, the attack was allegedly triggered by a dispute between the Vice-Principal and the students over examination malpractice at the school premises in the Akure North Local Government Area.
Mrs Asije reportedly hired thugs to assault Mr Rotifa, Vice Principal of Complete Child Development College, located in Aule, Akure North Local Government Area, after he confiscated her son’s mobile phone during an exam.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Monday.
He said the Deputy Commissioner of Police, under the directive of Commissioner Wilfred Afolabi, led a tactical team to apprehend the suspects swiftly.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department and will be charged to court after the investigation is concluded,” Ayanlade stated, urging the public to report suspicious activity.
The Ondo State government has condemned examination malpractice, warning of strict sanctions.
Akindele Ige of the Ministry of Education, via a statement by Director Olaoluwa Meshack, emphasised zero tolerance for cheating, thuggery, and other vices among students, noting all offenders will be held accountable.
