The Abia State Police Command has banned the sale and use of fire crackers, popularly called knock-out or banger, in the state during the Yuletide.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner of Police in the Command, Janet Agbede, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Umuahia, the state capital.
The statement, which was signed by the Command’s Spokesman, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, warned those selling and shooting the outlawed products to discard the idea.
It stated that tactical teams had been mandated to checkmate the users, adding that defaulters would be arrested and prosecuted, accordingly.
Agbede, therefore, urged parents and guardians to restrain their children and wards from the use of knock-outs and bangers.
