Police declare 2 personnel missing, 3 others injured in Ebonyi lawmaker’s attack

The Ebonyi State Police Command has declared two of its officers missing with three sustaining bullet injuries following the recent attack on the convoy of Chinedu Awo, representative of the Ohaukwu North State constituency in the state House of Assembly.

It was gathered that the police personnel were in company with the lawmaker who was on his way, on Sunday, to his hometown, Effium, in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner of Police in the Command, Aliyu Garba, announced this in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Odah Loveth, made available to journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital.

The statement quoted the CP as saying that the officers and the lawmaker went to the community in search of some engineers who were abducted on November 3 in the state.

The statement read that “On November 28, at about 1:40pm, while the Police operatives were returning from investigation activities in connection with the three missing engineers who were abducted in the same area on the 3rd of November, 2021 while on the Ring Road site project, the operatives were ambushed by armed warriors numbering over 60 who attacked them from all flanks, but the operatives gallantry fought back, resulting in heavy casualties on the side of the attackers.

“However, DSP Bruno Chukwu and two others sustained bullet injuries and are currently responding to treatment while two Police officers, Sergeant Donatus Osugwu and Sergeant Thaddeus Ugoeze, are suspected to have been abducted by the hoodlums as they were discovered missing in action.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, Aliyu Garba, led a convoy of about seven teams on reinforcement where they cordoned the forest and searched the village but could not see the missing officers nor the perpetrators.

“Efforts are in top gear to ensure that the perpetrators are tracked down and arrested.”
