Police dock man, 22, for stealing money

The Police in Osun State have arraigned a 22-year-old-man, Ibrahim Idris, before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Osogbo for allegedly stealing money.

Idris was said to have stolen the sum of N50, 000 belonging to a woman at Ayetoro area, Osogbo, after breaking into her house.

He was said to have forced his way into the residence of the complainant, Alimot Bello, located at Number 1, Dejo Babalola Street, Ayetoro, Osogbo where he allegedly stole the money.

The charge against him read that “Ibrahim Idris, on January 28, 2022 at about 10:30am at Ayetoro area, Osogbo did steal the sum N50,000 only belonging to one Alimot Bello of Number 1, Dejo Babalola Street, Ayetoro area, Osogbo.”

According to police prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode, the offence contradicts Section 383 and is punishable under section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State, 2002.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge slammed against him.

The defence counsel, Akano Suleiman, urged the court to release Idris on bail, saying that he would provide reliable sureties.

Chief Magistrate A. Adebayo granted the accused person bail of N50, 000 with one surety in the same amount.

He said that the surety should provide a valid means of identification with a verifiable address.

The matter was adjourned till March 14 for mention.
