Police drag man, 28, to court over alleged N40m fraud

The Osun State Police Command has dragged a 28-year-old-man, Adam Abdullahi Olanrewaju, before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo over allegations of stealing and fraud.

Olanrewaju was said to have committed the offence in collaboration with others now at large in Osogbo, the state capital.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode, told the court that the defendant fleeced one Kehinde Oluwasegun Agboola of the sum of N35 million by pretending to supply nine vehicles to him for his transport business.

The defendant was also accused of defrauding his victim of another sum of N5 million under the pretense of putting finishing touches to his building project.
He was also alleged to have attempted to kill Agboola.

The charge against him read that “Adam Abdullahi Olanrewaju and others now at large, sometimes in the month of November, 2022, at about 3pm in Osogbo, Osun State did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit, obtaining money by false pretense.

“You and others now at large, on or about the same time, date and place, did with intent to defraud, obtain the sum of N35 million from one Agboola Kehinde Oluwasegun under the pretense to supply him nine vehicles to set up a transport company for him, a pretense you know to be false.

“You did with intent to defraud, obtain the sum of N5 million from one Agboola Kehinde Oluwasegun under the pretense of putting finishing touches and completing a building for him, a pretense you know to be false.

“You (defendant) did conspire with others at large to commit felony to wit stealing and you did steal the sum of N35 million and another N5 million property of one Agboola Kehinde Oluwasegun.

“You and others at large, sometimes in September, 2022, at about 1pm in Osogbo, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit attempted murder. You did unlawfully attempt to kill one Agboola Kehinde Oluwasegun.”

The defendant was said to have committed offences contrary to and punishable under sections 422, 419, 390(9), 516 and 320 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State, 2002.

He pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

Magistrate O. A. Odeleye asked the defendant to present a formal bail application in court and adjourned the matter till November 17 for mention.
