Police drag two men to court for stealing, fraud

The Osun State Police Command has arraigned two men in separate cases for allegedly defrauding and stealing from some residents.

One of the men, namely Dauda Folorunso, was docked for conspiring with fleeing accomplices to steal a Bajaj motorcycle valued at N310, 000.

The charge brought against the 35-year-old man, read that “You, Dauda Folorunso, and two others now at large, on October 9, 2022, at about 7am at California area, Osogbo, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit stealing.

“You did steal a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number, TRE 183 VN; engine number DUXWMK81264; and Chassis number MD2A18AX8MWK21760, colour red, valued at N310, 000 only, property of one Adedeji Ridwan.”

Police prosecutor, Inspector Olayiwola Rasaq, informed the court that Folorunso committed offences contrary to and punishable under sections 516, 390(9) and 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State, 2002.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges in court without legal representation.

Magistrate A. K. Ajala granted him bail in the sum of N400, 000 with one surety in like sum.

In a related case, a suspect, namely Daniel Jonathan, aged 35, was arraigned in court for allegedly defrauding a man of the sum of NN353, 100 under the pretense of selling woods to him.

The charge brought against him read that “Daniel Jonathan, sometimes in the month of June, 2022, in Osogbo, did by false pretense and with intent to defraud, obtain the sum of N353, 100, from one Jeje Babatunde, under the pretense of selling woods to him, a pretense you knew to be false.”

The prosecutor said that the accused person contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State.

However, Jonathan pleaded not guilty to the offence. He was granted bail in the sum of N400, 000 with one surety by the Magistrate.

Their cases were adjourned till November 11 for hearing.
