Police exhume, complete autopsy on Mohbad’s body, arrest nurse

  • Seyi Tinubu denies N15m donation

The Nigeria Police Force said the autopsy of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has been completed.

The Police made this known on its X page on Thursday night.

The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin had earlier announced that Mohbad’s body was exhumed for autopsy.

“The Nigeria Police Force wished to inform the public that the autopsy procedure for Mr. Mohbad has been successfully completed,” the NPF wrote.

“Furthermore the information will be provided as soon as the results are available,” it added.

The police have also arrested the nurse who reportedly injected the deceased singer prior to his demise on Tuesday, September 12.

A police source claimed that the musician was beaten by the same people who always threatened and harangued him, after a show he had in Ikorodu.

He was said to have sustained injuries following the beating, leading him to seek the services of a nurse at home.

It was learnt that Mohbad started convulsing after being given injections, one of which was said to be an anti-tetanus shot.

A tetanus shot is a toxoid vaccine that prevents tetanus, a life-threatening bacterial infection.

“Investigators have established that he was beaten by the same people that have always harangued him after his show in Ikorodu and he sustained some injuries.

“When he returned home, he complained of body pains and a nurse was brought to treat him. One of the injections administered to him was an anti-tetanus injection. He started convulsing and died at home after the treatment. He was confirmed dead at the hospital. Meanwhile, the nurse has been arrested; the nurse was arrested three days ago,” the source said.

Mohbad’s father, James Aloba, had said in an interview that he suspected the auxiliary nurse who injected Mohbad before he died.

According to him, the injection given to him might have complicated his son’s health.

Mohbad’s death last Tuesday raised concerns, as an accusing finger was pointed at the Marlian Record Label’s owner Afeez Fashola, professionally known as Naira Marley.

Also, there have been allegations and counter-allegations from his distant relatives over his estate in the early days of his demise.

Nigerians queried why he was buried at Ikorodu in Lagos, immediately after the following day he died, but his father provided an explanation that is the family Yoruba custom.

Nigerian youths have staged peaceful protests to demand justice for him.

Both Nigeria police and Lagos police command vowed to probe his death, as the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also asked the Department of State Service to join in the investigation.

Meanwhile, a media personality, Japheth Omojuwa, has denied claims that Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, donated N15 million to the son of late Mohbad.

Omojuwa issued the denial in a lengthy tweet on Thursday.

A media aide to the President, Olusegun Dada, had shared a transaction receipt of N15 million allegedly donated by Seyi Tinubu.

However, Omojuwa stated that Seyi was still deliberating on what to do to assist the deceased’s family.

He wrote, “Seyi Tinubu didn’t donate N15 million to Mohbad’s kid or family. I would know, because I have been discussing the issue with him for several days.

“Bell Schmurda mentioned Seyi in a tweet and I immediately forwarded it to him. The same way I have forwarded tweets around policy interventions to him and he’s gone ahead to help advance causes. When I know the source of the relevant tweet, I message them to let them know I am helping to push the matter. This time, he called me and asked what he could do. I shared my thoughts.

“I said not to get sucked into the social media thing because whatever he said or did would be politicized. I then went on to say, irrespective of that; we should prioritise his family, especially his kid. He said he’d commit to the kid’s education and also support the wife immediately. But we also knew there was still a danger of that getting used against him politically – that’s the world we now live in. It is what it is; it’s why one can only move the best way one can.

“I sent a message to one of my friends in the industry who himself has also been involved with the Mohbad issue – without making any social media noise whilst getting dragged for not tweeting lol.

“Without knowing what I had shared with Seyi, he also advised me to hold on. That he would make the necessary connections when it is convenient to do so without appearing to be getting in the way of anything. Any rational person wouldn’t need an explanation for the hesitations around the issue. It’s the intersection of a criminal matter and social media narratives.

“I’d ordinarily ignore these things. I have come to know that for all its power and essence, some things cannot be done by tweeting.

“Just to be clear, the N15m making the rounds that Seyi donated is not true. My position is obvious – if you can comprehend what you read – I was involved with him on this matter from the get-go

“And if you want to know how he is ultimately supporting the kid and the wife, I don’t think that’s my business to say. And frankly speaking, I don’t think it matters. That’s left for those who received what to say.

“This post was made for those who need clarity on the matter. Love and light to every sensible person out here. And especially everyone who genuinely cares about Mohbad, his memory, his family and his legacy. Including those not doing social media posts.

“Rest in peace Mohbad. As we stay in pursuit of justice, I hope that the kid he left behind gets all the support he needs, long after social media moves to the next thing. Because it will.”
