Police gun down robbery suspect, recover stolen vehicle

The Delta State Police Command has gunned down one armed robbery suspect and arrested two others, who were involved in a robbery operation at Robert Allory Street, Uloho Avenue in the Ughelli South Local Government area of the state.

According to a press statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, the armed robbery suspect was gunned down in a gun battle with the police.

She said, “On 21/12/2015 at about 1920hrs, the DPO ‘A’ Division Ughelli received information about a robbery operation at Robert Allory Street, Uloho Avenue Ughelli. Based on the information, a patrol team was swiftly mobilised to the scene and it engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel.

“In the process, one of the bandits was gunned down while two others, one Isaac Aghofne ‘m’, aged 22 years, of no 25, Robert Allory Street, and Innocent Ejeba, ‘m’, 19 years of Ememukhowane village, were arrested.”

She said items recovered from them included two double-barrelled, cut-to-size-guns, one locally made pistol, four expended live cartridges and some mobile phones.

Meanwhile, she said investigation was in progress to track down the remaining fleeing suspects. In a similar development, the Delta State image-maker added that a patrol team from ‘B’ Division, Ughelli, recovered a snatched vehicle from suspected armed robbers.

She said, “On 22/12/2015, at about 1016 hours, one Mrs. Ikelegbe Uwomano of Ekeredjebor community reported at ‘B’ Division Ughelli that on the same date at about 1000 hours, while she was driving out of her compound in her husband’s Volkswagen car with registration number FST 773 CB, two armed men accosted her and snatched the said car from her at gunpoint. Items inside the snatched car were two Nokia phones, First Bank ATM card, PPEB Asaba identity card and N2,000 cash.

“Sequel to the report, patrol teams swung into action and pursued the miscreants to Iyede where the hoodlums abandoned the vehicle and fled into the bush. Meanwhile, the vehicle has been recovered while efforts to apprehend the fleeing criminals are ongoing.” Two armed robbery suspects were also arrested by a team of Quick Response Squad at Ecobank, Warri, while they were trying to dispossess a bank customer of his money, she disclosed.
