Police gun down suspected kidnapper, rescue victim in Delta

  • Three others escape

Men of the Nigerian Police Force, Delta State Police Command, said a suspected member of a kidnapping gang in the Ozoro area of the state was shot and killed on Tuesday.

The deceased suspected kidnapper, alleged to be a member of a four-man kidnapping and robbery gang that has been terrorising the areas, was said to have abducted a man whose name was not revealed from his residence along Owhelogbo Road, Ozoro, Isoko North, after they shot at him, forced him into the trunk of his own car and took him away.

The spokesperson of the Delta Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, on Wednesday indicated in a statement that the Divisional Police Officer in Ozoro, CSP Ogedengbe Areguamen, following a distressed call he received, led his men to engage the kidnappers and rescued the kidnapped victim.

“The DPO, CSP Ogedengbe Areguamen, upon receiving this information, mobilized and led Police operatives/vigilantes to Owelogbo Road, and other parts that exit Ozoro in a bid to rescue the kidnapped victim, and possibly arrest the suspects.

“Their effort paid off when they sighted a (Toyota) Corolla car with a registration number that matched the description given by the distress caller. In an attempt to intercept them, the suspects abandoned the victim in the car’s trunk, disembarked from the vehicle, and fired some shots while escaping into a nearby bush.

“The Police operatives relentlessly went after them, and successfully neutralized one of the suspects while three others escaped. The kidnapped victim was rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment, (while) his vehicle and one locally made cut-to-size double barrel gun were recovered,” the statement said.
