Police officers at the popular and busy G-Hostel junction on Enugu- Abakaliki highway Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, have been attacked by unknown gunmen leaving some with bullet wounds.
Confirming the incident,the State’s command Public Relations Officer, Superitendent of Police, Chris Anyanwu disclosed that though some police officers sustained injuries, they killed one of the attackers while others fled with bullet wounds .
“Yes,our men at the G-HOSTEL junction check point of Enugu-Abakaliki highway were attacked by unknown gunmen this evening just few minutes ago. None of the police officers was killed rather one of the hoodlums who attacked them was gunned down and taken to Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki(AEFUTHA) where he just gave up the ghost.
“We recovered some guns and charms from them. The hoodlums came in their numbers in a Sienna bus and motorcycles and attacked our men but they responded and killed one of them while others fled with bullet wounds.
Our men shot at didn’t die they are receiving treatments now.”
Meanwhile, the bloody gun battle on Wednesday evening hindered businesses and normal heavy traffic at the junction as motorists take alternative routes while roadside petty traders and other residents deserted the area for safety.
