Police nab suspected cultist for unleashing terror on Osun community, killing two

The Police in Osun State have arrested a 24-year-old suspected member of a cult group, Kareem Salam Wale, for allegedly conspiring with his fleeing gangs to terrorize Ede community in Osun State.

The suspects were said to have been responsible for the death of two people in the community.

The men were also alleged to have burnt down a house and a car belonging to a resident of the town during the attack on the ancient town.

Wale allegedly butchered a cleric, Pastor Adewumi Timileyin, before opening fire on him, an action which allegedly led to his death.

In the same vein, he was also reported to have killed one Ajao Taofeek in the town.

When brought before a Magistrate’s Court in Ede, Wale was slammed with four counts bothering on engagement in unlawful society, murder and unlawful destruction of property worth N10.6million.

The Police prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Adepoju, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with others now at large on May 13, at about 2:28am.

He said that Wale, with other fleeing members, engaged in unlawful society known as Eiye Confraternity and unleashed terror on members of the public around Amulogun area of Ede and its environs.

The charge brought against him read that “Kareem Salam Wale and others now at large, on the same date, place and time, did unlawfully kill one Pastor Adewumi Timileyin by inflicting cutlass injury on him and also fired him with a gun which led to his death.

“You, Kareem Salam Wale, and others now at large, did unlawfully kill one Ajao Taofeek at Agip Area, Ede. You unlawfully burnt down the house and a Toyota car 2007 model, properties worth N10.6milllion belonging to one Olayiwola Adesina Wakili, aged 45 years, at Arulogun area, Ede town.”

The prosecutor said that Salam Wale committed offences contrary to sections 316 and 64 and punishable under sections 316 and 44(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34 Volume II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

The plea of the accused person was not taken because the court lacks jurisdiction to try the matter.

Magistrate D. Ajiboye ordered that the defendant be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter till March 30 for mention.
