Police nab suspected phone thieves for stabbing man to death

A four-man robbery syndicate that specialises in stealing mobile phones in Kano has been arrested for allegedly stabbing one Mohammed Suleiman, resident of Sharada Quarters, Kano to death.

The wife of the deceased, (names withheld), alleged that the incident occurred along the Yahaya Gusau Street, Sharada within Kano metropolis.

Narrating what happened, the bereaved woman said, “We gathered from people that when the gang stopped my husband, they asked him to surrender his phone but he refused.

“They stabbed him with knives but the knives did not penetrate him, because he was fortified. Then they stabbed him with a horn, so he fell down and was bleeding. Before help came, it was too late. He died.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Kano State Command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said, “On September 19, 2021 at about 11pm, a report was received that some hoodlums attacked one Mohammed Sulaiman (male), of Sharada Quarters, Kano at Yahaya Gusau Street, Sharada and stabbed him with a knife and robbed him of his mobile phone.

“The victim was immediately rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where he was confirmed dead.

“Upon receipt of the reports, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, raised teams of detectives, led by SP Suleiman Ibrahim, to arrest the culprits.

“The team swung into action, and following credible intelligence, arrested Hussaini Malami, 17; Harisu Manniru, 20; and Hussaini Abubakar, 19; all of Zawaciki Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano State.

A knife with blood stain and the handset of the victims was recovered from them.

“The CP ordered that the case should be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department in Kano for discreet investigation after which suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.”
