Police officer shoots colleague dead during heated argument

An Inspector of Police, Samuel Ugwor, has been shot dead by his colleague during a heated argument in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.

Both officers were said to be assigned to Abia State House of Assembly member for Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency, Hon. Onwusibe, Ginger.

Confirming the incident, the state police command’s spokesperson, Geoffrey Ogbonna, said the victim was shot dead by his colleague, Inspector Atule Benedict, both from SPU base 15, Anambra State, but attached to Hon. Onwusibe.

According to reports, the shooting occurred after an altercation between the two officers over an unspecified issue.

A source said efforts to disarm the assailant police Inspector, who was said to have gone berserk and threatened to kill anyone who came his way as he fled, failed after the incident.

The suspect reportedly fled with his AK-47 rifle to an unknown location, but later surrendered himself to the SCID Umuahia, where he is being held.

The erring officer is now in custody, according to the police spokesperson while the deceased remains have been deposited in the morgue.

He stated that the case was being investigated by the state CID Umuahia.
