Police prosecute 3 friends over alleged plan to steal N100,000

Three friends were, on Wednesday, arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court in Ota, Ogun State, for alleged attempt to steal N100,000 from Zenith Bank.

Oseni Iliasu, 21; Francis Alechnue, 30; and Elijah Ojole,19, were prosecuted with attempt to steal, conspiracy and breach of peace.

The prosecution counsel, E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendants committed the offence at the Zenith Bank Plc, Joju Branch, Ogun State.

Adaraloye said the defendants also conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace when they presented a cheque, knowing full well that there was no money in the account.

The offence was said to have contravened the provisions of sections 249(d), 509 and 516 of the Criminal Code,Vol.1,Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate A.O. Adeyemi admitted the defendants’ to bail in the sum of N20,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

Adeyemi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed.

The magistrate adjourned the matter to July 15 for definite hearing.
